Mistaken Identity
“You prick! Have you forgotten the importance of being proud and what it means to be Korean? The hell you wanna celebrate Columbus Day for? You’re not even Colombian!”
Yoochun wasn’t sure what caused his delayed response. He slowly turned his puzzled eyes towards a fuming Yoonho, not sure of how to react. He had only said he wished they had the day off so they could enjoy a bowl of ddukbokki together. In America, it’s an observed holiday.
These were his options:
One, laugh his ass off at the accusation and then correct the prideful leader of the bunch.
Two, blink very hard and pretend his sleepiness hasn’t worn off yet.
Three, yell back and flip Yoonho off for being ignorant.
Or four, just remain flabbergasted and speechless.
If only there was an option for E, all of the above.
While Yoochun carefully debated on what course of action to take, the others have already taken their places and fallen into action.
Shim Changmin, the youngest of them all, toppled over in his seat as he succumbed to a fit of silent giggles. He clutched his stomach as he hacked away merrily.
Kim Jaejoong rubbed his eyes with an apparent frown on his face. It wasn’t a disturbed one. It somewhat resembled a smirk in disguise. He yawned and instinctively collided atop of Changmin’s balled up figure, a sign of disbelief. He pressed his eyes closed and smiled. He trembled against Changmin’s shuffling body, and remained that way.
Joonsu squeaked noisily at Yoonho.
Yoochun stared at the hectic scene and supposedly selected an option without much thought. He was the speechless one.
“What?!” Yoonho demanded, irritated by the array of reaction before him.
“Hyung,” Joonsu squealed. “I don’t think you have to be Colombian to know that Christopher Columbus supposedly discovered Migook.”
“Ha-Ha-And to cel-cel-celebrate…haaaaaa,” Changmin breathed.
“I’m Korean!” Jung Yoonho bellowed, seeking justification. “I’m Korean and I don’t care if Colombians discovered Migook or Ilbon. Where’s my kimchi jjigae?!”
Park Yoochun allowed himself a deep breath and began with A, laugh out loud. Then proceeded with B, blink away the tears that brimmed his eyes. He didn’t quite exactly “flip” Yoonho off, but he most certainly gave him an earful. And lastly, he fell into silence as he was once again amazed by Yoonho’s ignorance.
Happy Columbus Day.
